A year to make great leaps! First grade is a year of tremendous academic growth!

READ! READ! READ!
Students and parents are excited about learning to read and read better during the first grade year!  This is such a vital growing year for your children.  The best way to make sure that your child makes progress is to read with them every night!
READING CLUB
Nightly reading practice is important.  Each student is asked to read to or with an adult on a nightly basis.  The students will bring home books they have selected from the clasroom library.  Please take 10 or 15 minutes to read with your child!

Classroom Rules
I firmly believe that my classroom is the students' classroom also! At the beginning of the year we work together to develop a set of classroom rules. We also develop a listing of jobs for both students and teacher. After we have developed our rules and jobs, we discuss what we all feel are fair consequences for not following the rules. These rules and consequences are posted in the room. This process allows all of the students to take ownership in our classroom.

Please let us know what you think! Comments and questions are welcome!
